Personal Protective Equipment legislation requires eye of face protection in hazardous areas.
Whilst every effort should be made to remove work place hazards, if safety eyewear is
necessary the following selection criteria should be applied:

Type of Hazard
Hazards fall into four main categories:
a) Mechanical- flying debris, dust or molten metal
b) Chemical- fumes, gases or liquid splash
c) Radiation- infra red, ultraviolet or glare
d) Laser light

Type of Eye Protector
a) Safety Face Shield- protects the face as well as the face- but does not protect
against dust or gas. They are comfortable for use over extended periods.
b) Safety Goggle- These can protect against all types of hazard- they may be worn over
spectacles.
c) Safety Spectacles- available in a wide range of styles to suit all requirements. They
will not protect against molten mental, dust or gas. They are also available with prescription
